Hiking boot emoji has arrived! ?? These boots made the entire 2,000 mile journey along the Appalachian Trail with Earl Shaffer, starting in 1948. They were resoled twice along the way. ?

Shaffer used an odd foot-toughening technique after developing blisters in the early part of the hike: "Since the weather was too cold and footing too rocky to allow walking barefoot, the regular solution, the next best thing was to put sand in my boots and wear no socks until my feet toughened." ?
