Photo by Federico Rios @historiassencillas | Traveling from the Orinoco Delta (in northern Venezuela) to the Brazilian border in the south is a long and difficult trip that lasts about three days. Without money, indigenous families seeking refuge have to sleep in improvised places and use all methods of transportation – busses, private cars, hitchhiking and walking on foot – to reach the border. Here, Delia Estrella travels with her granddaughter Ingrid Moraleda in a 4x4 truck traveling from Las Claritas to Santa Elena at the Venezuelan side of the border. This was the first time Delia had left her home in the Orinoco Delta – perhaps she will never return. See more of Delia’s story @historiassencillas and in the November issue of National Geographic. #refugeees #Venezuela #Brazil #Orinoco #Warao
