These beautiful and elusive whales can be recognized by their unicorn-like tusk, which is used as a tool to hunt their primary prey: polar cod. Narwhals rely heavily on the presence of sea ice as the polar cod life cycle is completely tied to the ice. It’s heartbreaking to realize the spiral of consequences associated with the impacts of climate change, especially as it relates to one of our oceans most majestic marine animals. From the Arctic to the Antarctic, the planet's polar regions are under threat from climate change.
