#SoulofaNationBKM explores the unique experience of being Black in America during a pivotal time of change and self-exploration. The dichotomy of occupying a land for centuries, yet still feeling alienated and excluded was felt wholeheartedly in politics and daily life. Artists express this through depictions of the nation ranging from soft, serene pastel acrylics, as seen in #FrankBowling’s paintings, ⇨ to bold and dominant hues paired with the country’s ongoing history of violence, as seen in #FaithRinggold’s United States of Attica.⠀
