Film by @amivitale | Happy World Elephant Day! Feeding time at the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary (@r.e.s.c.u.e). Reteti's nutritionists prepare specially developed formula for the orphans which is then delivered to them wherever they may be - in the field or in the boma. Feeding is a big part of the day’s work for the handlers and drinking is a noisy, slurpy affair. “Before, I was afraid of wild animals, especially elephants,” says Dorothy Lowuekuduk, one of the nutritionists, “but now I see them differently. The sanctuary has changed my feelings about elephants.” The elephants are fed 2 liter bottles, every three hours, around the clock.

Reteti Elephant Sanctuary (@r.e.s.c.u.e), in northern Kenya is the first ever community-owned and run elephant sanctuary in Africa. The sanctuary provides a safe place for injured elephants to heal and later, be returned back to the wild. Reteti operates in partnership with Conservation International (@conservationorg) who provide critical operational support and work to scale the Reteti community-centered model to create lasting impacts worldwide.
