Photo by @magnuswennman Children’s hospital in Washington DC. This is an important institution studying sleep issues in children. I was able to meet two young children who were staying in the sleep lab for a night. This is Francis who suffers from sleep apnea. He has been hooked up to an EEG, which he will wear throughout the night while the lab technicians monitor his sleep patterns. Children have a completely different sleep cycle than adults, and as you get older the amount of sleep you need decreases. The research coming out of Childrens hospital has in fact led to school start times in surrounding areas being moved to 45 minutes later. Even though it is a small difference, it has a big impact on the students.
