A sneak peek at what’s happening in our Arts and Industries building, which is open Thursday through Sunday as part of the @_bythepeople_ festival, an international arts and dialogue festival taking place across Washington, D.C. Events are free and you can register in advance to skip the lines at bythepeople.org.
More than 30 visual artists will display their work at five festival hubs. This installation is by Rachel Schmidt, a local artist who explores urbanization and its impact on the environment. “Monument for Picnics” recreates an outdoor picnic scene with recycled materials. You’re encouraged to sit in the faux-grass field and stare at the “clouds”—a synthetic picnic of the future.
The Arts and Industries Building will also be included in our #SolsticeSaturday celebration on June 23, with late-night hours and programs across our museums (details at the link in our bio). #ByThePeople
