Would this banner pull at your heart-strings? That was what it was designed to do.
This banner was likely used during one of the thousands of Bowl of Rice parties that were held throughout the country from 1938 to 1941. Bowl of Rice parties were large, community-based fundraising drives to help Chinese civilians affected by the Second Sino-Japanese War. While they may have been called “parties,” the fundraising activities included elaborate dinners, concerts, sporting events, radio shows, and pageants.
