Courtesy of Aso Teleworks Center, this breath-taking birds-eye photo of the Mt. Aso caldera was taken by drone in Aso-Kuju National Park. One of the largest calderas in the world at 25 kilometers by 18 kilometers (about 15.5 miles by 11 miles), entry is prohibited by the Japanese government depending on volcanic or seismic activity. Although entry was temporarily re-opened on February 28th, 2018, it is currently prohibited due to the volcanic activity pictured here. However, aerial helicopter tours are available, which means visitors can get a similar view of the mouth of the caldera from the sky!
