Photo and words by @katieorlinsky (Katie Orlinsky) | In late September every year, polar bears flock to the Inupiat town of Kaktovik in the Alaskan Arctic to eat at "the boneyard": the remains of whales annually hunted by the community. Receiving this greeting from a teenage polar bear was one of my most exhilarating and fun moments as a photographer to date, but the reality of the situation is a serious one. Melting sea ice and warming weather have changed the migration and diet of the bears, making it more difficult for them to catch seals on the frozen ocean.
