??Mercredi est le jour des enfants sur notre compte Instagram ! Voici une peinture du XVIIIe siècle attribuée à John Hoppner et intitulée « Jeune femme et petit garçon tenant un chat ». Hoppner était un peintre anglais et il est intéressant de noter qu’il est devenu l’un des plus grands rivaux de Sir Thomas Lawrence dont nous avons partagé une œuvre mercredi dernier. Dans ce tableau, le petit garçon aux joues roses tient un chat dans ses bras alors qu’il nous regarde directement. La jolie jeune femme, qui porte une belle robe blanche rehaussée d’accessoires jaune moutarde, regarde ailleurs tout en gardant un bras autour du petit garçon.

?Wednesday is kids day on our Instagram! This week we have chosen an 18th century portrait called “Young woman and boy holding a cat” which is attributed to John Hoppner. Interestingly Hoppner became one of Sir Thomas Lawrence’s biggest rivals as not only were they both were English painters but they also had a very similar style (last Wednesday we posted one of Lawrence’s portraits). In this painting the rosy cheeked little boy is holding a cat in his arms whilst he directly gazes at us. The pretty young woman, wearing a lovely white dress with mustard yellow accessories is gazing elsewhere as she keeps the little boy close to her.
