Repost from @dinamishev @TopRankRepost #TopRankRepost One of the most epic day hikes in the country is Palm Springs' Cactus to Clouds Trail: It climbs 10,400 feet from the Palm Springs Art Museum to the summit of San Jacinto Peak. It's 21 miles.

A couple of members of the former Coachella Valley Hiking Club (Ray Wilson and Sue Birnbaum) got the idea for this adventure in 1991, and led other hikers on it for the first time in 1993. Another club member, Roger Keezer, came up with the name Cactus to Clouds, which was exactly what my 8 hours on it were like. At 7 a.m., I started hiking up through cacti ?? and, by the time I was on San Jacinto's summit around 2 p.m., was surrounded by clouds.☁☁☁

What makes it truly epic is that you don't have to hike down ... at least not down the whole thing. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is at 8,400 feet, only 2,400 feet below San Jacinto's summit. Hike up. Hike back down 2,400 feet. Take a 10- minute tram ride down. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
