Photographed whilst on assignment by @simonnorfolkstudio for the current issue of National Geographic Magazine.. Pastor Philip Mantofa (@philipmantofa ) is Vice Head-Pastor of Mawar Sharon church which oversees 70 local churches all around Indonesia. With the pastor are 956 pilgrims from Indonesia. They are all being baptised at Yardenit Jordan River Baptismal Site.
This site is a long way from the authentic site of Jesus’ baptism which is way down in the Lower Jordan at Bethany where it is narrow and muddy and badly polluted with sewage and agricultural run-off.
