Here, an image taken deep under London whilst on assignment for National Geographic – a peeling back of the city’s skin to explore the hidden histories unearthed by archaeologists working on the Crossrail development.

Crossrail is a railway line under construction in and around London. On completion, a total of 42km of subterranean rail tunnel will have been bored as part of Europe’s largest infrastructure project.
