A Batfish glides through the warm waters off of the Ogasawara Islands, Japan, feeding on plankton in the late day light filtering through the shallow sea. The Ogasawara Islands, 620 miles south of mainland Japan, are often referred to as the “Galápagos of the Orient” for their immense biological diversity.
