A shark scientist - behind the protection of a cage - studies an Oceanic Whitetip Shark in the waters of the Bahamas. This species of shark was once the ‘most abundant large animal on Earth’ but today is on the verge of extinction. In the years between 1995 and 2010 alone, their numbers declined 93% due to anthropogenic hunting of their fins, which are used in shark fin soup. The Bahamas remains as one of the few places these animals can still be found.

If you like sharks, or simply find these creatures fascinating, check out the new book - SHARK - by @BrianSkerry and @ナショナルジオグラフィック! Available at the link in my bio or wherever books are sold.
Also be sure to follow my main account, @BrianSkerry, for more underwater photography and to interact with others who love our oceans.
