@marcusbleasdale As the Dominic Ongwen trial continues at the International Criminal Court, the focus returns to Lords Resistance Army victims in Northern Uganda. The charges in this case include abducting children and using them as child soldiers between 2003-2005. Here, an image I took in 2003 shows children who ran for cover to avoid LRA abduction. They huddle together at night for safety in “the Ark” in Gulu. They are just a few of thousands fleeing villages and seeking safety in numbers in Gulu.
The trial is reawakening memories for survivors, who are watching the Court proceedings closely at ICC Outreach screenings. “What I am seeing today,” said one survivor, “Ongwen appearing before the court for trial, has built trust in me; the justice talked about over many years ago is being delivered now to us today.”
