Photo by @FransLanting Across West Africa, millions of wild animals are killed every year for the bush meat trade, but this young mona monkey in Ghana lived in an area where a community coexists with its primates. Their protection is based on an ancient taboo against killing monkeys. In the nearby Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, the respect for monkeys even extends after death: Monkeys are buried in a dedicated cemetery, with grave markers identifying each individual.
