Today is National #MinersDay. Over on Twitter, Curator Peter Liebhold is answering YOUR questions about #MiningHistory from 1-2 p.m. EST. (You can ask a question here, too.) In this 1884 photo, taken at the Kohinoor Colliery, a coal mine near Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, young boys, elderly men, and men with disabilities can be seen at work in the colliery's breaker building. So-called "breaker boys" were charged with breaking large pieces of coal into small, uniform pieces and removing impurities.
