I used to get hurt when people said "kawaii" to any of my illustrations, even to the most weird ones I attempted. I met a charming lady who pinned Edward Munch's "Puberty " on her wall when she was a little girl like I did. If I confess, "Kawaii" might exist as mirror to "strange". If that's true, that would be timeless.

昔、自分の絵がなんでもかんでも、世にも奇妙な絵と思って描いても「かわいい」と言われることに傷ついていました。少女の頃、わたしと同じくムンクの『思春期』を壁に貼っていた素敵なレディに会いました。少女の「かわいい」と「奇妙」は恥ずかしくも背中合わせなのかもしれません。だとしたら、永遠です。
