Photo by @Cory Richards. Two San bushmen walking across the Makgadikgadi Pans as part of cultural experience for tourists. The traditional way of life for the bushmen is nearly all but lost. The San people (or Saan), also known as Bushmen or Basarwa, are members of various indigenous hunter-gatherer people of Southern Africa, whose territories span Botswana, Namibia, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and South Africa. The ancestors of the hunter-gatherer, San people are considered to have been the first inhabitants of what is now Botswana and South Africa. The historical presence of the San in Botswana is particularly evident in northern Botswana's Tsodilo Hills region.
Shot on assignment for @ナショナルジオグラフィック profiling the source of the Okavango Delta's water in the Angolan highlands. The team, lead by Steven Boyes PhD traveled over 1,200 miles by Mekoro doing the first descent of the Cuito River and mega transect of the Okavango's source, its outlet in the delta, and its ultimate end in Makgadikgadi Pans.
