Photo by @stephenwilkes: In the days and weeks following September 11, 2001, enveloped by the tragedy, I found myself—as we all did—trying to comprehend what had happened.

Shortly after that day, I photographed the remains of the towers from a rooftop view. Dust billowing from the ground caught a beam of light, and for a moment it seemed to create a shadow within the cloud of dust, hauntingly resembling the shape of the North Tower.
The lives lost on that tragic day and the heroism of a city—and country—that banded together will never be forgotten.
