A coastal brown bear walks upstream in search of salmon along the remote shores of Katmai National Park and Preserve, Alaska. Each bear can catch and consume over 15-30 salmon every day to fatten up for their 6 month hibernation high in the mountains and glaciers towards the interior. When they do move to higher elevations in search of suitable den sites, they will usually choose one on the North facing side of the mountain where the absence of the sun will help keep the den from melting. So while those peaks in the distance look bare now, once covered with snow, they will make the perfect winter home for these bruins. #Katmai #nationalpark #alaska #bear #grizzly #nature #wildlife #animal
