Photo by @FransLanting “Lilies of the Desert” I slipped into a clear lagoon in Botswana’s Okavango Delta to photograph a patch of water lilies anchored in desert sand. To me, these lilies symbolized the essential wonder of the Okavango Delta: This great wetland, with its abundance of life, is really just a thin sheet of water stretched across the Kalahari Desert. I share this image in memory of Bill Garrett, the former Editor in Chief of National Geographic Magazine, who gave me the assignment to cover Botswana’s wildlife and wild places for National Geographic. Bill was a visionary editor who influenced me and many of my colleagues profoundly. He inspired us all to reach higher. His legacy will be with us for a long time to come and is embedded in many of the fine images posted @ナショナルジオグラフィック.
