The silhouette of an Oceanic Whitetip Shark swimming in the offshore waters of The Bahamas. A pelagic predator, this species' numbers have been dramatically reduced worldwide by over fishing and the shark fin trade. Each year more than 100 million sharks are killed worldwide, primarily for their fins, which are used in shark fin soup. The Oceanic Whitetip is a species that has been particularly impacted by overfishing. The Bahamas remains as one of the few places where a small population can still be found.
