From the eighth story deck of the first American cruising ship to make this approach in decades, the Havana skyline came into view a little after sunrise: a long sliver of land, a cathedral dome, then the outlines of real city, which from a distance was shining. Passengers and crew snapped dual flags of amity, and from the shore, a crowd of Cubans gathered to watch the Americans make their entrance.
Desde el octavo piso del primer crucero estadounidense en decadas, la primera vista a La Habana apareció un poco después de la salida del sol: un pedazo de tierra, la cúpula de la catedral y el entorno de una ciudad de verdad que brillaba a millas de distancia.
