The President is the world's second largest tree by volume ... another Giant Sequoia , the General Sherman tree, is one mile away and is slightly larger with tour buses and restrooms to support this claim.

After the success of our Coastal Redwood composite image we decided to try for a dyptich, a Giant Sequoia portrait. These trees only occur naturally in groves on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. This time using a snow blizzard to add to drama.

The giants that still exist are protected .... thank god the wood is brittle and not great for human use.
The President is measured to be around 3200 years old.

Disclaimer : it is totally illegal to climb trees in protected areas and my images are done with the support and permits from the protectors. Great care is taken to protect the tree during the process.
