Tens of thousands of children are trafficked internally in West Africa, sold by destitute parents or kidnapped, and forced to work as slaves like this little mechanic in Benin. Human trafficking remains one of the world's most intractable and horrific problems—and one of the world's largest criminal activities, with an estimated 27 million people bought and sold against their will, held captive, brutalized and exploited for profit. This story for National Geographic received the biggest response in its history until then but the situation continues to get worse, especially in post-conflict societies and war-torn countries-- of which there are far too many today. #humantrafficking #slavery @thephotosociety
