Photo by @mike_hettwer - At Burning Man, they burn things. On Saturday they burn the 100 foot tall wooden effigy of a man. On Sunday they burn the temple which takes weeks to construct. Many of the performers use fire. And while it is one of the biggest parties in the world, it can also be a solemn and contemplative place. Every available surface on the temple is used to post photos and handwritten messages. Many are to departed loved ones and tears are frequent. The burning of the temple represents a spiritual letting go. Burning Man happens annually in early September in the Black Rock Desert about 120 miles north of Reno, Nevada in the US. Over 65,000 people gather and build a temporary city - later removing any trace of having been there.
