Abbott Roland, 59, stands outside of the abandoned New Orleans house where he lived for the past 6 years. The city has recovered impressively since hurricane Katrina, but many residents still struggle to come back or attain affordable housing. Since the Nat Geo News story about housing challenges where this picture ran (I did that with writer Katy Reckdahl), UNITY of Greater New Orleans has been able to get Mr. Roland into permanent housing- what a great update.
