Photo by @amivitale. My heart goes out to everyone at Dvur Kralove Zoo in the Czech Republic as well as all those who knew and loved the gentle giant Nabire. She was one of the last of the northern white rhinos left alive on the planet. Here, veterinarian Pete Morkel is in the zoo as they prepared to move the last four that were able to breed to Ol Pejeta Conservancy (@olpejeta) in Kenya. Today, only four of these ancient, majestic creatures are alive on the planet. They survived for thousands of years but could not survive mankind. Please continue to follow the work of Ol Pejeta, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (@lewa_wildlife) and the Northern Rangelands Trust (@nrt_kenya) who are doing so much to save and protect so many endangered species.
