Taxidermist @GeorgeDante touches up a brown bear in a #diorama that lets visitors see animals up close and in re-creations of natural habitat. New York City’s American Museum of Natural History @アメリカ自然史博物館, where this was taken is considered the best collection in the world.
This photo is the lead picture in my coverage for the article "Still Life" a story about the best that the art form has to offer and the reason it remains an important part of educating the public about wild animals and wild places.
The @アメリカ自然史博物館 closed the hall of North American Mammals and spent the better part of a year re-working the dioramas too reflect the way the hall looked when it was opened in 1942.
Few museums are taking care of the dioramas that they have, let alone spending thousand of dollars on the restoration of the works of art. The dioramas themselves are time capsules of the environments that the specimens were collected in. Scientists are using them as a way to look back an the worlds environments from years ago.
A link to the story is in my profile, and I think it is worth a look, it was written by Bryan Christy @BryanChristyonAssignment and a great read.
Special thanks to the American Museum of Natural History’s Bernard Family Hall of North American Mammals where this image was made. @Robert Clark @ナショナルジオグラフィック @thephotosoviety @InstituteArtist
