One major dynamic that separated the West African #Ebola outbreak from previous occurrences was that the virus reached heavily populated urban centers like Freetown and #Monrovia, #Liberia. All previous outbreaks occurred in remote and highly isolated areas, a dynamic that inherently limited the spread of the virus. In West Africa, small nations with porous borders are connected by comparatively developed road networks. As people moved, so did the virus, ultimately arriving in places like Kroo Bay where it spread quickly.
