In September, this animal mummy will be joining the exhibition ‘Lost Egypt’ @cosiscience and as part of the conservation treatment for a closed object like this mummy, it was necessary to use x-radiography to image the internal contents. Conservators acquired several digital x-rays of the object, and were amazed by the complete skeleton preserved inside. It was immediately apparent that the remains are not those of an ibis, as was previously expected. We reached out to veterinarians who helped identify the animal as a falcon.
