150 years ago today: Sitting in these chairs, General Robert E. Lee (left) surrenders to General Ulysses S. Grant (right) in Appomattox, Virginia, ending the Civil War.
After the historic moment, three different Union officers individually claimed the two chairs and table. In three separate donations, the three items were reunited at the Smithsonian. ??
