The “sandwich” dial is one of the major innovations made by Officine Panerai to meet the needs of the Royal Italian Navy in the 1930s and 1940s.
With the aim of achieving unequalled luminosity, the dial was constructed with two overlapping plates, with the self-luminous paste between them.
