51 years ago today: Cassius Clay becomes a world heavyweight boxing champion by defeating Sonny Liston in Miami Beach, Florida. Most thought Liston, age 32, would beat the 22-year-old Clay, but Clay was speedier than his opponent. A week later, Clay became Muhammad Ali.
