This watercolor is from Topaz War Relocation Center in Utah, one of the internment camps where Japanese Americans were imprisoned during World War II. The artist was Toshio Asaeda.
On February 19, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order #EO9066, which led to the imprisonment of 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry.
