Sometimes we chart a #swim course that begins and ends at our boat home. Sometimes we choose a destination and commute on our own power, stroke by stroke. One of my favorite swims in these islands is at The Baths along the western coast of Virgin Gorda. We glide between smooth granite boulders above formations of fish doing the same, and we land on a stunning white beach like something from a movie set. A swim like this teaches lessons. After dozens of swims through this place, I have learned that the Sea is a supportive environment that wants to carry you from here to there. Many people jump in with an instinct to fight, resist or power through. Surrender is actually a better choice. Letting the water carry me through these rocks leads to a wild and wonderful ride, free of scrapes or bumps in even the tiniest of passages. After two or three straight days of #openwaterswimming, I love to witness the struggle drop away from one of our swimmers.
