Georges Seurat, born today in 1859, only lived to be 32 years old. He painted this work when he was 27. Seurat added the wooden frame later, using the same pointillist technique to suggest the extension of the image past its boundaries. [Georges-Pierre Seurat. "Evening, Honfleur." 1886.
