This was my very first great gray owl sighting....ever. She let me stay within close range of her for over 30 minutes where I was lucky enough to really study her. Most of the time, you may only see them for a few minutes and then they fly in the opposite direction never to be seen again. An interesting fact is that their skulls are only 30% of what we see of the head. All the feathers on her head create a sort of radar dish that funnels the sound to their extremely sensitive ears.
