Photograph by @pedromcbride: 3,500-foot #Pumori, which means “Unmarried Daughter” in Sherpa, looms above my friend, Kevin Fedardo, as he navigated the "popcorn section” at 19,800 feet inside the Khumbu Icefall on the south side of Mount Everest. We did a story on the "Ice Doctors”, the #Sherpas who built the route through this frozen chaos. It is a place of beauty, but also profound tragedy as avalanches have taken the lives of too many here. The brave souls that open these climbing routes are as heroic or more than those that pay to climb to the top. #nepal #regram
