Ian Imes — the beloved and respected skateboarder — was the victim of a near fatal hit-and-run collision just before 8 p.m. on April 5th, 2014 in Santa Monica, California. Imes was hit at the intersection of 17th and Maine streets. Imes was out skateboarding with his friend, Ryan Graham. The two were skating downhill on 17th street in the bikelane. Imes was unable to stop. The car colided with Imes, stopped and then drove away.
The incident has left Imes with broken vertebrae and a damaged lung. Ian Imes is now paralyzed from the waist down. The Imes family, unfortunately, does not have insurance. There is hope for Imes, but that hope comes at a costly price.
