The Leica R cameras were an SLR type camera rather than a rangefinder. In 1996, Leica produced the R8, the first R camera completely independent of Minolta influence. While the R series came to an end in 2009, the legacy of the R lenses lived on. It shouldn’t be taken lightly that many claim they are “the best Leica lenses ever made."
