The lawns have been manicured, the flowers watered and players warmed up for Wimbledon 2014, the grand slam tennis tournament in England.
The 41 mown grass courts will soon feel the thud of tennis shoes from 480 players, and 38,500 daily visitors are expected descend on the All England Lawn Tennis Club grounds in Southwest London over the next two weeks. As well as being one of four major tennis grand slams throughout the year, Wimbledon has a special attraction for its quintessentially British feel—particularly the consumption of strawberries and cream and Pimm's drinks. It is estimated 28,000 kilograms of strawberries, 7,000 liters of cream and 200,000 glasses of Pimm's will be consumed over the two-week event.
