In 1962, Italian entrepreneur Mario Bagno bought all of the land in Consonno, a small village in northern Italy. He forced the town's inhabitants to leave and started work on a Las Vegas-style destination complete with a Muslim minaret, Chinese pagodas and a medieval castle.
Delays in construction forced Bagno to open his "City of Toys" ("Città dei Balocchi") before it was finished. The destination city was short-lived, however. In 1976, a landslide destroyed the only road into town and the project was abandoned. Today, the "City of Toys" still stands, covered in graffiti and forgotten by nearly everyone but a few adventurous Instagrammers. To see more photos and videos, tap the location text above.
