The Orlando Towers stand tall in Soweto, Johannesburg, an area that was once the center of popular resistance to apartheid. The two brightly decorated cooling towers were built in 1951 and decommission in 1998, but are popular today with local photographers and daredevils alike. One tower is a functioning billboard and the other displays the largest mural painting in South Africa. In addition to serving as public art, a platform connecting the two towers makes them a hotbed for bungee and BASE jumping. To see more photos, tap the blue location text above this image.
