@hypeform: @madarchitects is set to transform an old cement factory into a multifunctional public space that brings together culture, creativity, and commerce. ⁠

The Shanghai location was once home to one of the largest cement factories during the peak of the city’s urban construction. Built in 1971, the warehouse was once the first stop for ships to send raw materials to the cement factory for processing before production ceased in 2013. ⁠

With the history in mind, the design looks to preserve the original architectural structure of the site but will insert some distinctly new sections across the building. ⁠

A standout feature of the design is a long metal stairway that leads up what seems like an ominous spaceship, but in reality, it ascends to an oasis-like rooftop area.⁠
