This week in 2011, Capitol Records released The Smile Sessions. The album features comprehensive session highlights and outtakes, with the first 19 tracks comprising a hypothetical version of the completed Smile album. The Smile Sessions received unanimous critical acclaim upon release and won the Grammy Award for Best Historical Album. Said Brian: “I’ve often felt that I was on a musical mission, to spread the gospel of love through music. Probably nothing I’ve ever done has topped the music I made with Van Dyke, my old crew in the studio and the voices of my youth – me and The Beach Boys.”
