URGENT: Two Bangladeshi Workers have been Killed - Garment Workers Need Your Support & Amplfication

After months of organizing, many worker unions across Bangladesh have rallied around Tk 23,000 ($209 USD), for a new minimum monthly salary figure in the country. They currently receive one of the lowest minimum wages of all countries producing ready made garments (lower than China, India, Cambodia) of just $73/month. TOMORROW November 1st the Wage Board will make a decision and Bangladeshi workers ask for global solidarity behind this specific figure.

Yesterday Md Rasel Hawlader, aged 25, a maintenance machinist at Design Express Garments Ltd. was shot and killed by the Bangladeshi police (October 30).

Md Rasel is a member of the Design Express Sommilito Sramik Union, which is affiliated with the Sommilito Garments Sramik Federation union.

This is a developing story.

At this pivotal juncture in the wage setting process, workers, who continue to advocate for their demands in the face of violence and adversity, need support to ensure that the government sets a wage that at least ensures basic resources to survive.
